Get Ready for Prototype Fair

During this session you will:

  • find out what will be waiting you during the prototype fair

During Prototype Fair, each team presents their prototype at Demo Area and those who wish can practice their pitching skills Goldfish Tank. Do not hesitate to test your skills at Goldfish tank – its a perfect exercise for Sales Phase! You will present in front of the jury who asks questions and gives feedback. The other students are your audience.

See material “Intro to pitching”. A good pitch is not more than 75 words (30 seconds to 1 minute).

Team task: Prepare a poster or flyer for the Prototype Fair

90% of the information that reaches our brain is visual, so you will need visual material, in order to get attention and be remembered.

  • Create an A3 poster or a A4 folded flyer about your product or service.
  • Set up a team meeting:
    • discuss the content and visual
    • divide tasks (who will write the text, who will design, who will comment)
    • set deadlines and stick to them
  • For content, use your onepager. As you have now also developed a prototype, add a sentence or a slogan why especially your product is good for the solution.
  • Onepager was for structuring information, poster is for marketing – make it visually attractive!
    • What is the most important image or information? Stress it, bring it forward
    • Use your logo
    • Think of fonts and colours
    • Do not overburden the poster with text – summarise and rephrase the onepager texts, find a slogan
  • Save the poster / flyer in PDF format and print out a test version to see if all elements are in their right places. The test version can be black-and-white.
  • Sumbit your files to organisers.

Pitching your product at the Prototype Fair

Prototyping phase ends with a Prototype Fair where all the student teams can show their work. How will it be organised?

Prototyping workshops

Your team will have some face-to-face time and help from experts to work on with your prototype.

Demo Area

Demo Area is the place to showcase your team and product. Start preparing to introduce your team and product to fellow students, teachers, project team members and mentors.

There will be more information about the layout and equipment at the Demo Area in May session.

Goldfish Tank

Goldfish Tank is for the teams who want to test their pitching skills in front of a jury. This is a voluntary option! We do not use a shark tank format, but a softer option. Goldfish tank jury is friendly and supportive so you will get a lot of encouragement and useful feedback 🙂

Team task: Start preparing for the Prototype Fair

No matter if you only present your prototype at the Demo Area or go to the Goldfish Tank, there is your chance to pitch your idea and product. You need to plan, prepare and practice, in order to be simple, memorable and convincing!

For the Demo Area, prepare a short introduction to your product. You can use it as an elevator pitch throughout the sales phase. Think of the following questions:

  • why is your product or idea needed? what problem do you solve with it?
  • what is the value your product will offer?
  • what makes your product special? What are the 1-2 key features or functions of your product that help to solve the problem?

Write down just the main points for each question. A good elevator pitch is about 75 words long and lasts from 30 seconds to 1 minute. Share your writing with your teammates. If you do not agree on all points, try to reach a consensus. It is important that you all pitch the same idea and product 🙂

Try to present the pitch – practice makes you confident. All team members should be able to introduce your idea and prototype, even if you have decided who is responsible for marketing.
